HomeKit No Response Issue

Hello, I'm having issues with my HomeKit. My lights can be turned on already & HomeKit saids "No Response" now, it doesn't say it every single time. Sometimes it will connect & then sometimes no response again. Help would really be appreciated. Thank you!

Experiencing the same

I'm experiencing the same.

I've validated the Philips Hue app can still control my lights; however, across three different HomeKit apps (Home, Home Automation, and iDevices) I'm unable to connect to the Hue bulbs or Philips bridge.

My current setup:

- 45 Philips Hue bulbs, connected to a Philips Hue bridge (v2.0)

- AppleTV 4

- Connected to wifi (not remote connection) and my network / router config is an AirPort Extreme

Wireless connectivity works everywhere else, this is something about communication between the Hue bridge and HomeKit.

Please advise.

Other HomeKit accessories work

This has happen to me too this week when trying to control the Hue lights away from home using HomeKit.

Other HomeKit accessories like Elgato Eve Energy worked flawlessly, but the Hue lights were unavailable for several hours at a time. The exact behavior varied somewhat, but at one time on one iOS device I got a top banner in the Home app saying my Apple TV (by name) couldn't be reached (or similar), despite Eve Energy accessories being controllable.

I suspect this is an issue with the latest Hue bridge firmware as I cannot recall this happening before, except possibly momentarily.

Hue Bridge 2.0, SW 01038390, not connected to "My Hue".

Apple TV 4, tvOS 10.2 (14W265), set as the only HomeKit Home Hub.

AirPort Extreme, FW 7.6.8.

New firmware 01039019 but still the same problem …

I have exactly the same "No Response" problem!

Same for me. No Response in

Same for me. No Response in Home app and 3rd party HomeKit apps, but able to control Hue lights fine from Hue app. Elgato, Lutron, August accessories work flawlessly at home and remotely. This issue only impacts Philips Hue.

I've been experiencing this issue for months - long before the most recent firmware update. Have tried all sorts of attemps to fix, including: static IP addresses configured for Hue bridge, completely resetting up HomeKit from scratch, resetting up Hue bridge from scratch, different routers, logging out of iCloud and back in on all devices (including three different Apple TV 4th gens). I believe this is a HomeKit bug affecting communication between Hue bridge and HomeKit. It seemed to happen only after I updated software on Apple TVs. This has happened for months, and on different bridge firmwares. So, I don't believe this is an issue caused by the most recent Hue firmware.

Same issues

Just wanted to chime in that I'm having the same issue too.

Still having the same issue.

Still having the same issue. Philips Hue is the only manufacturer I am having any HomeKit issues with. This is now months of "no response" issues with no resolution. Beyond frustrating. Any response from the Hue team?

Workaround

I wanted to share my findings. I've had the no response problem since I bought my hue bridge 1 month ago. The standard scenario is that after a reset or sometimes reboot of the bridge HomeKit works for about 2 minutes and then the no response promblem occur.

After a lot of head ache and a lot of resets it seems that it's somewhat stable. The problem seems to have something to do with the iOS keychain.

1. Reset HomeKit (I did this through the API but I guess you could do this by factory resetting your hue if that is an option for you)

2. Disable iCloud Keychain

3. Pair the bridge with HomeKit through the Hue app

This worked for me and it has been flawless for 48h now.

Add me to the list. Bulbs

Add me to the list. Bulbs work in hue app, but are random at best in the Home app. Sometimes I notice they are reachable on my ipad but not on my iphone and vice versa.

Same same

Having the same problem since firmware update. Don't really feel like resetting and losing all my scenes / lights.

Morac
I'm having the same problem

Homekit controls the lights just fine when I'm at home, but when I'm away, I frequently get a "No Response" for long periods of time and then it just starts working again.  During that time other Homekit controlled devices work fine.

I have a Apple TV 4 with the latest TVOs and a Philips Hue Bridge model BSB002 with firmware 1705121051.

This has actually been an ongoing problem for a long time, but recently it's gotten worse.

Frequently get "no response"

Frequently get "no response" and there are a number I've people seen post about this issue on macrumors as well. Any update on Philips team looking into the issue? Philips App usually works fine but the integration with the hub and homekit is flakey.

Hive been going through this

Hive been going through this a long long time and I’ve tried everything. But I think I may have got something. Try disabling upnp in your router or Nat-pmp in an Apple router. Seems to connect all the time so far. Yea you may have to manually port forward your devices for other stuff now but hey

CooperCGN
Will try that

I have upnp activated and just this morning had to restart the bridge twice to get it connected again to homekit. I will uncheck upnp and will see what happens. From what I saw the most connection problems I got when I was not on 4G but logged into another wifi than my own (like at my parents house). I then always got those connection errors.

Add me to the list too, I

Add me to the list too, I have the Bridge 2.0. Everything is up-to-date. And I’m running iOS 11 beta 3. My partner is running the latest iOS 10 and she runs into the same problems.

CooperCGN
UPNP...

Unchecking UPNP didn't solve the problem. This is highly annoying as I have some stuff setup in homekit that simply doesn't work reliably leaving me standing in the dark. I hope Philips sees this and works on a solution. The sub-reddit for homekit is also full of complaints. It's like the bridge after sometime is loosing connection to the ATV (which is my hub and is even set to no sleep). Even if it is on Apples side Philips should let them know. As long as this problem exists I will halt my expansion plans on the hue stuff

Hue Lights not working in HomeKit (Same Issue)

Add me to the list as well. I also ocassionally works from iPad, but iPad and iPhone 7 plus were running iOS 11 public beta - I assumed this was the issue and went back to 10.3.3 however nothing has change. EcoBee3 works fine in HomeKit, all Hue Lights are unresponsive. However, all Hue lights work in PhillipsHue App.

Has there been any change with the latest bridge update and/or iOS 11 or tvOS 11?

HomeKit Intermittent "No Response"

Yesterday I updated the bridge firmware and now I've the same issue :(

No response from HomeKit cannot turn lights off

Constant no response  trying to turn lights on and off, latest was that Bridge was flashing,Apple suggested reset but are  not much help .They have sparse knowledge of their own app.Disappointing and a waste of money!

IOS 11 and connection problem when hue software update

2017-10-08 Update, suddenly, it worked

I do not know how, but still hue have a software problem

Problem
Urgh, why does the hue not work with ios 11 latest update.

I can control the lights through the apple tv and iphone and apple home App

Come on, hue developers, we are many out there complaining, but no support is given.

So I stopped buying hue stuff, untill the problem is solved

Constant issues with HomeKit here too..

65 lights over two hubs. Both experience a lot of No response. Been having issues since I started with HomeKit.

I also have Lutron shades, August lock, ecobee, elgato home, etc. It all works flawlessly, except HUE with are having a lot of issues all the time.

The HUE app works flawlessly though. Dimmers, taps, sensors as well. It´s only with Apple TV 4K HDR and HomeKit the issues come for HUE devices.

I will do as the previous poster said too, stop investing in HUE until its sorted out.

Home app cannot find bridge after update to IOS 11

this is my first posting and I hope it’s the right group.

I have the square Hue bridge, about 15 Hue lights, ipads and Apple TV4.

All worked well (incl Homekit and Siri) till the recent update to IOS 11. Now the Hue app cannot find the bridge and and the homekit shows ‘no reaction’ for all lights. Also Siri does not work.

Does anyone have the solution?

B00
Same here but wait....

hey guys/gals

I have the exact same issue. Loads of lights but more often than not they say unresponsive in HomeKit app.

One thing I did read elsewhere was that if you have a switch as well as a router, try plugging the hue hub directly into the router rather than a switch....not sure why that would help other than a very sensitive latency issue but hey, worth a try maybe?

Having said that it didn’t fix my issues.

I also have hue dimmer and tap switches and notices that when they are configured in iOS 11 HomeKit they hardly ever work, but when I configure them using the hue app they work great all the time. Same goes for motion sensors

Another symptom is that when a HomeKit scene partially works I often get the bulbs being mixed colours when they turn on. I’d read somewhere, maybe reddit, that hue is using the mesh network to send out broadcast signals with a longer TTL while HomeKit is not really using the mesh properly and sending signals to each bulb directly in a hub and spoke style model, maybe with insufficient TTL, maybe the shear volume of point connections making it unrealible.

Ok, do here is the test....it might logically follow that wherever you configure the scene is where the smarts are happening as to what type of commands get sent, so do any of you see any improvement if you set the scene in the hue app and sync that with HomeKit. When activating a hue authored scene in HomeKit, is it reliable? - mine appear to be so far but only tested one scene.

If the bulbs are showing as unresponsive in HomeKit but the scenes are now working, then I think this points to a HomeKit issue rather than a hue one?

Doug Isom
Kind of the same

If I am home on my own WiFi network everything works fine for the most part, get the occasional No Response. Now if I am not at home I get No Response on all my hue lights and my august locks. I have AppleTV4 as hub. I just got new iPhone 8 and of course iOS 11. No real problems before that. Hue app works fine. Can't access my locks remotely as I don't have their hub, it is my next purchase though.

I have a mix of color and white lights. I have a weeknight evening colors scene and a different one for weekends to both come on at 8pm. I have a white light scene (using the white lights and color lights set to white) that comes on at 6am right before we get out of bed and then another at 5pm.

For the first several months I had this in HomeKit and it worked fine.  Then the color ones quit working properly, wouldn't come on when supposed to. Moved the color automations to Hue app and all worked fine for a while. The same thing, they quit working properly. Got new phone, moved back to Home Kit and worked for a few days.  The wrong colors being set and different strength values from what I set up.

Just this week I finally got fed up and moved the color automation to IFTTT reading scense from Hue app. Worked great so far, tonight will be the first night my weekend color routine runs.

All this time, the white light automation has almost never missed a beat in Home Kit, maybe once or twice in almost a year they failed to come on, but other than that they have worked flawlessly. And that even includes the bulbs that support color but are set to white for those routines.

Hue/Homekit Disconnect

Disappointed to see ZERO comments in here from Hue. Even if this is a developers focus forum, your lack of support is NOT appreciated.

Fellow users: I found that the toggling the 'Home Data' switch in the HUE app under Settings on my iPhone 6S re-established the connection to Home Kit. Shouldn't be necessary but seems a tolerable work around if it's only required once in a while.

Hue Team...thanks again, for nothing!!

No response! :s

I have the same problem.

I tested this on several IOS versions and differnt devices. (ios 10/11)

Hue bridge has the latest firmware.
i even downgraded my router firmware and rebuild my network with fixed IP's etc

In my opinion It seems like a communication issue between the Hue app and the Homekit.
By doing the following steps beneath it works for me. But in the end, im doing this everyday, for the last couple of days soo....

@wobblecat thanks for this!

I hope this issue gets resolved really fast. Its becomming mad annoying.
Atleast give us the idea that "hue guys"  ;) are working resolving this issue.

SOLUTION to my "No Response" Problem

I've had problems with Philips Hue (Bridge 2.0) since the day I purchased it- an unreliable connection from within the app and HomeKit issuing 'No Response' about 99% of the time. Spent hours troubleshooting with my network, hub, and app to no avail until I gave up. Yesterday I tried with a friend's hub that had been working perfectly fine in his setup, and it still exhibited the same issues within my network, which to me isolated the problem to the network.

Through a stroke of luck and tweaking, I was able to fix the problem, and believe that for 99% of people having this issue it comes down to the wireless router being used and the mDNS service being disabled (or poorly implementated). So when posting your issues in the future, I recommend posting the router brand and model you are using, and looking through the router manual to find settings for mDNS (and ensuring it is enabled).

In my particular case I was using a Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X and had previously enabled mDNS Reflector for cross-VLAN Airplay, but when I disabled the mDNS Reflector and enabled the mDNS Repeater, all my Philips Hue issues disappeared.

Ubiquiti

nickvaf,

How were you able to update the mDNS settings? Is it an option in the GUI or did you have to use the CLI?

HomeKit and Hue are a TOTAL Waste of time and money.

lets face it Phillips.  It appears that you do not give a rats ass in so far as fixing the no response issue that home kit has.

I have two dozen lights for sale.  Half price plus postage. Totally disappointed in your lack of giving a fuck ...

Really sure this post does not meet your terms and conditions but I give a crap about that just like you give a crap about fixing your problem!

Spending a thousand EUR for sitting on the toilet in the dark.

Struggling with this issue since over a year now. I even changed my router from an Apple Airport Extreme to a new, state of the art AVM FritzBox - however the bug continues to exist. Lights randomly become unresponsive, HomeKit just says "no response" - when I open the official Philips hue iOS app the lights seem to be fine and can be controlled as you would expect it "most of the time" - sometimes lights become unreachable too, usually a bridge reboot helps - sometimes time itself fixes the issue.

This behavior changes on a daily base. My network has static IPs so there is basically NOTHING that changes or could cause a loss of connection or confusion. As Philips sees this as a problem caused by Apple ("It's Apple TV, contact Apple Support") - I only see this behavior with the Philips hue system.

Other HomeKit hardware works flawlessly so this can not be a fault by Apple. As another user stated mDNS could be a lead, personally I got the feeling the hue system struggles of poorly implemented standards - it's already amazing how much "junk libraries" are part of the hue system.

I am a iOS and macOS developer with > 10 years of professional experience and I can only shake my head over this.

Please Philips, can you take this seriously? We talk about light here, a very basic thing if you want to see something. How would you react if your water supply would behave like this.

Having to ask Siri twice breaks the whole experience.

As I believe everyone here is experiencing, I have too often to ask Siri twice to turn on/off my lights, the first time it says it doesn't find my devices. I hope if we are enough to report this issue it will be fixed, because this breaks the whole experience of having voice responsive lighting.
(I have the standard Bridge + 3 Bulbs kit)

Can physics help us? Unsurprisingly the answer is yes.

Assuming “nothing is wrong” and “it’s nobody’s fault” I took a closer look.

It has been a week now since my implementation of a solution: zero “no response” issues at all. I think I figured it out:

Hue lamps build a mesh network of devices passing along and exchanging data via the “ZigBee” protocol. The hue bridge is just a gateway to a TCP/IP protocol, translating and handing external requests sent by clients like apps or web-services, sensors, remotes etc.

ZigBee and wifi co-exist on the same frequency, the 2.4 GHz band. In heavily populated areas there is a plethora of wifi signals occupying common frequencies, controlled randomly at best. Call it a wave-length pollution.

So what we are dealing with are

.. overlapping frequencies..

For more detail on the interferences between ZigBee and wifi I found this link to be very useful:

https://support.metageek.com/hc/en-us/articles/203845040-ZigBee-and-WiFi-Coexistence

The solution:

Don’t place your Philips hue bridge too close to your Wifi-router.
Choose your wifi-channel carefully, mind your neighbours.

Most importantly: find a proper ZigBee channel in relation to your wifi channel.

Additionally I found it useful to turn off UPnP as well as DHCP for the hue bridge. Just to isolate the issue.

Nevertheless a workaround isn’t a proper solution. The problem itself should be fixed. Anyhow, great to be able to rely on my lamps... “again”.

Cedareden
Finally figured it out

The  overall problem with Hue & HomeKit seems to be with Apple TV serving as a hub. This can happen automatically when you log your Apple TV into your iCloud account. I simply reset my HomeKit & Siri in the Hue app settings using my iPhone  (which said HomeKit was already linked), then reconnected the hub to HomeKit using my phone. All is well. I don’t need the remote use of an Apple TV HomeKit hub anyway.

I do not know why the Apple tc HomeKit hub was not sharing to my iPhone or iPad.  But I am not worrying about it for now.

Fishsine
Apple ID and Hue Email

make sure your Apple ID/ email is the same as your Philips hue account email.  My HomeKit/AppleID email was different from my Hue account email and I experienced much of the above issues. Matched the email addresses and I seem to  have my remote hue light access via Apple HomeKit back which does seem to respond faster than using the out of home connection via Hue app. All of this was interrupted when I upgraded to iPhone 8 / iOS 11

kame31
10 days later, problems are back. Sometimes. Randomly. Why.

Man, this is crazy. Again, out of nowhere HomeKit shows "no response" issues again. Rebooted the bridge, no changes for now. I thought I fixed it after these couple of "glory" days of working lightning. I'm pretty much out of ideas for now, as is the community I think. It's just nuts and a huge pain. Why isn't there a bi-directional communication that checks that commands were executed sucessfully? It's like shouting into a forest and hoping that someone hears you in the dark, cold night while you are standing there freezing to death slowly. Great UX! Well done! Paying 40 bucks for a switch and another 40 for a light-bulb was a very good idea in comparison to a 50 cent bulb and a freaking swith on the wall. The future feels odd.

kame31
5 days later: goodbye motion sensors, hello "no response issue"

So today I noticed my motion sensors aren’t working any more. Rebooted the bridge - no change since hours. Also (surprise) HomeKit shows “no response” again for all lights and sensors. Literally just woke up with this issue after a couple of days without any issues or changes.

Ml
Same problem with no response - resolved

i had the exact issue where the first lamp worked as expected in HomeKit on my iPhone and iPad. The second bulb showed no response on the iPhone yet worked as expected on the iPad. I simply rebooted my iPhone and now it connects.

Like all others in this

Like all others in this thread, I had the same issue, with no connection! I use a Mobile Broadband Router, with both 2,4 and 5Ghz WiFi. I normally runs on the 2,4Ghz connection, and there my problem was with no connection. I here today, did a switch to the 5Ghz and Voila, the Siri starts working on the Hue bridge again! So for me, the solution was to switch to the other WiFi channel.

adridder
Same issue

6 bulbs, ATV and a lightstrip. Seems to lose connection randomly and reconnects randomly as well. Played around with the zigbee and wifi channels, using static ips, moved the bridge away from the router, etc. The Draytek 2132F router doesn't seem to support 5Ghz. Disabled the ATV as hub and switched to using my iPad as hub instead; same issue. Running out of ideas...

Same! It's a shame!

Everything works fine when under my home wi-fi... but Apple Home app show "NO RESPONSE" right after I leave it... all other homekit devices works fine... only found problems with HUE.

angry   IS THERE ANY PHILIPS DEVELOPER LOOKING AT THIS LOOOOONG THREAD?????   angry

Same issue. No one should buy hue lights anymore.

I’m having the same issue no matter what troubleshooting steps I take. Reconfiguring hue bridge, Deleteing and creating a new house in The home app, making sure my software is up to date, reconfigured my network and still No response!

Everyone should switch to LiFX bulbs, they are WiFi enabled and no hub required plus they are cheaper in most cases. Hue was first to the game but stopped innovating and just cared about their bottom line. Another option is in wall switches from Leviton, $50 dimmer switch controls 8  high hats  of mine.

ferus
It's 23.2.2018 and the issue is still not resolved

I am having the same problem. Philips Hue app works fine, communication with Apple HomeKit does not.

I get random "No response" messages for one particular bulb. I tried everything - I changed the Zigbee channel, moved the bridge away from router, disconnected and reconnected HomeKit via Hue app etc...

Nothing helped.

Had I known this I would rather invested in Ikea bulbs and not Philips...

Mac7695
Please fix this

i have had this problem sense iOS 10 and it it got way worse in iOS 11. No matter what I do I still have my HomeKit lights only working 20% of the time. I want to buy more lights but I’m thinking of going with another brand because this is  unacceptable that it’s been this long and my lights don’t work Most of the time. Please please fix this.
